Hooks

There are many different kinds of hooks when it comes to crocheting. Here are the different sizes and what they are used for.

They can be ordered by letters or numbers according to their size. Here is a chart showing the letters, numbers and actual size in mm of the different kinds of hooks.

Essentially, the thicker the yarn you are using the bigger the hook will need to be and the bigger the stitches will be. Bigger hooks are generally used for projects such as scarves or blankets where you are using thicker yarn whereas smaller hooks are used for finer projects such as slippers where you are using much thinner yarn. The bigger the yarn you are using the bigger the hook will need to be.

For my scarf I used a size 11 hook because I was using thicker yarn.
